Melissa Perez

Coffee Geek. UX Designer. YA Lit Lover. Mom.

After graduating with a Masters in Human-Computer Interaction from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, I’ve spent over a decade consulting as a User Experience Designer for a design and research firm in Milwaukee. My clients vary in size and across different industries. What I still love most about this role is talking to people to learn what the obstacles are in hindering success. In most cases, things that are perceived as obstacles often mask the real, most poignant problem for individuals or companies. Discovering creative solutions to these hidden problems is my favorite part of my role as a consultant.

Along my life journey, I also became aware that is very important for people to gather and create something with their hands alongside each other. When people gather, they learn how to have empathy, create community, and find purpose.

All of the above brings us to the creation of Omba. I am a work in progress, and I invite you to join me. We can journal and cut paper and glue things together.

Name the intentions:

Omba

“Omba” is inspired by humanity’s need to connect and communicate with nature. Omba is a meditative prayer to celebrate both the smooth and rough facets of our lives while endlessly aspiring to be a positive element in all of our connections.

“O” — The Oak tree symbolizes strength, determination and endurance.

“M” — The Maple tree symbolizes kinship, healing, and enthusiasm.

“B” — The Birch tree symbolizes hope and new beginnings.

“A” -- The Aspen tree symbolizes protection and the process of overcoming our fears.
